A sketch is a inicial drawing that reflects the main concept. It is made freehand, that is to say no drawing tools need to be used.

A technical drawing displays all the information and it is done with the help of ruler,a pair of compasses or a computer design program

We often desing objects that are bigger or smaller than the paper we draw on. We need to reduce or enlarge the drawing.

Technical drawings (Sketch, diagrams) and Scale

SCALES

 

For ex. in a map If the scale is 1 : x, then divide the actual distance by x to calculate the map distance.

1:1 is the full scale (escala natural) it shows the object same size as displayed in the drawing

1:10 is a reduced scale (escala de reducción) it shows the object on a smaller size as displayed in the drawing

10:1 is a enlaged scale (Escala de ampliación) it shows the object on a bigger size as displayed in the drawing

 

ACTIVITIES

Write True or false:

a) An object  is larger than its drawing in a reduced scale

b) An object  is smaller than its drawing in a reduced scale

c) An object  is larger than its drawing in an enlarged scale

d) An object  is smaller than its drawing in an enlarged scale

We are going to make an example with Tetris pieces:

Tetris is called a falling block puzzle game. In this game, we have seven different shapes called tetrominoes: S-shape, Z-shape, T-shape, L-shape, Line-shape, MirroredL-shape, and a Square-shape.

Select two different pieces.

Draw the fist one in scale 1:4

Draw the second one in scale 1:1

Note that the square unit is 2 cm.

Paper sizes

In technical drawing the most common formats are from the International Standar (ISO) ‘A’ Series.

A0 is the biggest format with and area of 1 square m

A1 is half of the size of A0 , A2 is half of the size of A1 and so on

A4 the usual paper we use is 21,0 cm * 29,7 cm

A0 is the biggest one and A8 is the smallest one. (A 0)

Electric circuits: elements and representation

An electric circuit is a route around which electrons circulate.

It consists of a generator, a cable, a switch and a receiver.

Electric current is the flow of electrons around a circuit

We need a generator in to maintain a current.

There are three types of materials.Conductors,Insulators,semiconductors:


Conductors

Conductors allow electric current to pass through them. All metals are conductors

Insulators

Insulators don’t allow an electric current to pass through them wood glass, plastic and the air are insulators

Semiconductors

Semiconductors have properties which are intermediate in magnitude between conductors and insulators. The most important examples are silicon and germanium.

The electric resistance of the material is the measure of the degree to which the material opposes an electric current flowing through it

Metals have hardly any electrical resistance whereas insulators have a very high level of resistance

Its value depends on the material used and its form.

Resistance increases with the length of the cable and decreases with its thickness

 


Elements of a circuit

The generator provides the necessary energy for electrons to circulate

The control elements direct and interrupt electric current

The receivers transform electric energy into usable energy

The protection elements protect circuits and people against potential problems
