Third day at Tofthøjskolen, Storvorde.

We started the day with a meeting with the Head of the school who informed us about its functioning. We revised the schedules of the teachers and groups.

Each teacher stays with children for 20 hours weekly unless they have other functions.  They have meetings and time for preparing lessons too. This means they stay at school from 8:15 to 15:30. They also have to supply collegues who don´t attend to school because they are sick or because of other causes . There aren`t surveillance teachers during the sessions only during breaktimes (5 or 6 teachers). There are two breaks, the first one of 25 minutes and a longer one for having lunch of 35 minutes. The duration of each session depends on the subject and the needs of the school.

Students who can`t follow the session  for any reason can stop for a while in or outside the classroom but they have to organize time to complete the task.

They have applications similar to Brújula and Pincel Ekade to keep the families informed.

The soundproofing of the spaces at the school improve considerably communication and coexistence. The entire school is insulated against cold and noise.

A 6º grade group of  children showed us the facilities of the school: the assembly room to celebrate meetings and parties and music, technology and science rooms. A gym for resting and another for giving the lessons.

Outside the classrooms there are shelves for leaving the shoes and hangers for the coats. The restrooms are opened and there are extra-sinks outside for washing hands and drink water. There are cupboards for keeping materials and unfinished works. Once finished there are shelves for showing them. Everything is outside the classroom.

For children under 6 years old there are lot of facilities such as kitchens, toilets, playing areas and a room for keeping extra clothes in case they need them. There are refrigerators for food and water too. Families can leave their children early morning or untill 17 if they work.

All the students since 4º grade have ipads. In case of accident the school fix them but if it happens again or there is any other problem the family has to pay.

At 12:35 we attended to a 6º grade lesson of crafting. Two teachers were in charge of the session. The way the session was organized was written in the blackboard and the kids followed the instructions easily.

In the afternoon we attended to a meeting with the teachers of history.  They were  discussing about an application called “Otur” that combines learning, playing and movement. It belongs to “ Historielab”a company that developes applications that permit creating and test routes of other users along the country. The students research about the local area where the school is situated. They can add texts and pictures.
