The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) (European System of Transfer and Credit Accumulation) is a system used by the European universities to recognise subjects and, inside the process called Bologna to quantify the work related to the student who works under the degrees supported by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). It might seem that this type of credits have been created from the above mentioned process of European convergence, however, they were already used in previous initiatives of student mobility such as, for example, the Erasmus Programme.
