Este año hemos llevado a cabo diferentes actividades y hemos celebrado algunas festividades. Aquí les dejamos algunos ejemplos.

HALLOWEEN
Last October, at our CEIP Playa Honda, we celebrated Halloween and «Los Finaos», a Canarian tradition that lasts from October 31st to November 2nd. We organized a gymkhana with Halloween-themed games to involve all students. Both teachers and students came dressed up in terrifying Halloween costumes to perform the famous «Trick or Treat» and receive broomsticks made by the students the previous week.
The school also sold roasted chestnuts to raise funds for the sixth-grade students’ end-of-year trip. «Los Finaos» is a time to remember loved ones who have passed away, and people in the Canary Islands gather to eat roasted chestnuts during this time. And lastly, we filled our bellies with delicious monster breakfasts.
We had a great time!
El pasado octubre, en nuestro CEIP Playa Honda celebramos Halloween y «Los Finaos», una tradición canaria que dura del 31 de octubre al 2 de noviembre. Organizamos una gymkana con juegos temáticos de Halloween, para involucrar a todos los estudiantes. Tanto maestros y maestras como estudiantes vinimos disfrazados con aterradores disfraces de Halloween para realizar el famoso «Trick or Treat» y recibir unas escobas de bruja realizadas por el alumnado la semana anterior.
La escuela también vendió castañas asadas para recaudar fondos para el Viaje de Fin de Curso de los estudiantes de sexto de Primaria. «Los Finaos» es un momento para recordar a los seres queridos que han fallecido y, la gente en las Islas Canarias, se reúne para comer castañas asadas durante este tiempo. Por último, llenamos nuestras barrigas con deliciosos desayunos monstruosos.

INFANT EDUCATION
EASTER
We have worked on Easter in Early Childhood Education through different crafts using different techniques: painting with watercolor and chopping easter bunnies, painting chiks with tempera paints and forks, playing with little stones and easter eggs…
And we have concluded this project with the “Egg Hunt”, searching the chocolate eggs around the garden.
Hemos trabajado la Pascua en la Educación Infantil a través de diferentes manualidades y utilizando diferentes técnicas: pintando con acuarelas y picando conejitos de Pascua, pintando con témperas y tenedores pollitos, jugando con piedritas y huevos de pascua…
Hemos terminado el proyecto buscando los huevitos de chocolate que el Conejo de Pascua escondió por el patio del colegio.
ENGLISH DAY
Thanks to the celebration of the “English Day”, the five-year-old students felt very curious and motivated to have their own United Kingdom flag like the one the “teacher” wore on Fridays. To do this, they had to observe the colors of the flag that was hung in the assembly, paint it, cut it out and glue it to the pole. With this activity the students had a lot of fun pretending to be the teacher at all times.
A través de la iniciativa del “English day” celebrada a nivel de centro, el alumnado de cinco años sintió mucha curiosidad y motivación para tener su propio banderín de Reino Unido como el que lucía la “teacher” los viernes. Para ello han tenido que observar los colores de la bandera que se ha colgado en la asamblea, pintarla, recortarla y pegarla en el palo. Con esta actividad el alumnado se divirtió muchísimo imitando en todo momento a la maestra.
COLOURS
To introduce English learning at the three-year-old level, we have sought to make it dynamic and fun. In this way, the little ones have been learning colors through play, such as the one shown in the following images, where they had to sort the colored stones into their corresponding flashcards, saying out loud what color it was and looking for where it went.
Para introducir el aprendizaje del inglés en el nivel de tres años, se ha buscado la manera de hacerlo dinámico y divertido. De esta manera, los pequeños han ido aprendiendo los colores a través del juego, como por ejemplo el que se muestra en las siguientes imágenes, donde han tenido que ir clasificando las piedritas de colores en su correspondiente flashcard, diciendo en voz alta qué color era y buscando donde iba.
FIRST GRADE
ENGLISH DAY
Every Friday we enjoyed our English Day at school. That day we played some music, made different assemblies and watched videos related with the English culture.

Cada viernes tenemos nuestro English Day en el colegio. Ese día disfrutamos con música, diferentes asambleas en inglés y algunos videos relacionados con la cultura inglesa.
Aquí tienen algunos ejemplos sobre cómo el primer nivel de Primaria celebra este fantástico día.
TANIT ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM
After studying in class the various materials that make up everyday objects and their qualities, the first-grade students have concluded this learning situation with a visit to the old town of San Bartolomé, paying special attention to the materials that make up its most emblematic buildings, its square, its sculptures,… Finally, we visited the Tanit ethnographic museum, to learn more closely about the history that the objects found there hold. Both in-class activities and the route through the village, students have been able to put into practice the vocabulary and structures in English learned so far.
Después de estudiar en clase los diversos materiales que forman los objetos de uso cotidiano y sus cualidades, el alumnado de primero de Primaria ha concluido esta situación de aprendizaje con una visita al casco antiguo de San Bartolomé, prestando especial atención a los materiales que conforman sus edificios más emblemáticos, su plaza, sus esculturas,…Finalmente hemos visitado el museo etnográfico Tanit, para conocer más de cerca la historia que guardan los objetos que allí se encuentran. Tanto en las actividades en clase como en la ruta por el pueblo, el alumnado ha podido poner en práctica el vocabulario y estructuras en inglés aprendidas hasta el momento.

CLAY COOKIES
Sharing with you a little bit of the joy and fun we had during our Christmas activity with the third-grade children. We made clay cookies and crafted our own Christmas tablecloth. It was a wonderful experience filled with creativity and holiday spirit.
It’s fantastic to share these special moments with your children!
Compartimos con ustedes un poco de la diversión que tuvimos durante nuestra actividad navideña con el alumnado de tercero. Hicimos galletas de arcilla y elaboramos nuestro propio mantel navideño. Fue una experiencia maravillosa llena de creatividad y espíritu navideño.
¡Es fantástico compartir estos momentos especiales con sus hijos!
HEALTHY HABITS
We had a fantastic time during the workshop led by the school nurse focused on healthy lifestyle habits and creative ways to celebrate birthdays in a healthy manner. The session was both informative and engaging, as we learned practical tips and strategies to incorporate nutritious choices into our daily routines. Additionally, It was great to explore alternative ways to celebrate birthdays. Overall, it was a valuable experience that left us feeling empowered and motivated to make positive changes towards healthier living.
Lo pasamos genial durante el taller dirigido por la enfermera escolar centrado en hábitos de estilo de vida saludables y formas creativas de celebrar cumpleaños cumpleaños de manera saludable. La sesión fue informativa y enriquecedora, ya que aprendimos consejos y estrategias prácticas para incorporar elecciones nutritivas en nuestras rutinas diarias. Además, fue genial explorar formas alternativas de celebrar cumpleaños. En general, fue una experiencia valiosa que nos dejó sintiéndonos motivados para hacer cambios positivos hacia una vida más saludable.
VISIT FROM THE MAYOR TO OUR SUPER THIRD GRADE!
Isidro Pérez, the mayor of San Bartolomé, visited us. He shared with us his daily routine, his duties at the town hall, and how he distributes work among his team members.
We also told him about the political parties in each class, introduced our mayors, and made some proposals for our town. Thanks to the ideas and proposals of our political parties, we managed to get nets installed on the beach.
In addition, other proposals were made, such as more parks for dogs, parks for different age groups, bike lanes, and even housing for the inhabitants of Lanzarote.
Everyone did a great job!

Recibimos la visita de Isidro Pérez, el alcalde del municipio de San Bartolomé. Nos ha contado su rutina diaria, sus funciones en el ayuntamiento y cómo distribuye el trabajo entre los miembros de su equipo. Nosotros también le contamos sobre los partidos políticos de cada clase, presentamos a nuestros alcaldes y alcaldesas e hicimos algunas propuestas para nuestra localidad. Gracias a las ideas y propuestas de nuestros partidos políticos hemos conseguido que pongan red en las porterías de la playa.
Además, se hicieron otras propuestas como poner más parques para perros, parques para diferentes edades, carril bici, incluso viviendas para los habitantes de Lanzarote.
¡Qué bien lo hicieron todos!

MINI TEACHERS ON FIRE!
Our students are capable of anything; they not only teach each other but also teach us as teachers. In this activity, we see how they work cooperatively, teaching one another. As teachers, we couldn’t be prouder of our amazing students.
Nuestros estudiantes son capaces de todo; no solo se enseñan entre ellos sino también nos enseñan a nosotros como profesores. En esta actividad, vemos cómo trabajan de manera cooperativa, enseñándose unos a otros. Como profesoras, no podríamos estar más orgullosas de nuestro súper alumnado.
FOURTH GRADE
BECOME METEOROLOGISTS FOR A DAY!
This week, our 4th-grade students embarked on an exciting meteorological adventure. Each student demonstrated their readiness to become a meteorologist by defending a weather forecast displayed on the screen. Armed with a worksheet to guide their presentations, our young scientists skillfully interpreted weather maps and provided insightful forecasts.

Esta semana, nuestros alumnos de 4º de primaria se embarcaron en una emocionante aventura meteorológica. El martes, cada estudiante demostró estar listo para convertirse en meteorólogo defendiendo una previsión del tiempo mostrada en la pantalla. Con la ayuda de una ficha para guiar sus presentaciones, nuestros jóvenes científicos interpretaron hábilmente los mapas meteorológicos y proporcionaron pronósticos perspicaces.

DESCRIBING MYSELF
We have been working on physical descriptions and personal information about ourselves. In March, we had a Speaking activity where students described themselves using their self-portraits. With the help of a guide, they practiced their monologues at home and impressed their classmates with everything they had learned.

Hemos estado trabajando en las descripciones físicas y en información personal sobre nosotros mismos. En marzo, hicimos una actividad de Speaking donde los estudiantes se describieron usando sus autorretratos. Con la ayuda de una guía, practicaron sus monólogos en casa y sorprendieron a sus compañeros con todo lo que habían aprendido.

FUN EASTER EGG HUNT IN THE FORM OF AN ESCAPE ROOM!
This Easter, our students participated in an exciting egg hunt in the form of an escape room. They followed clues and found their rewards in specific locations. It was an activity full of fun and teamwork. We also learned about Easter, which marks the arrival of spring and renewal. Egg hunts are a popular tradition in many countries, where decorated eggs containing treats or gifts.

Esta Pascua, nuestros estudiantes participaron en una emocionante búsqueda de huevos en forma de escape room. Siguieron pistas y encontraron sus recompensas en lugares específicos. Fue una actividad llena de diversión y trabajo en equipo.
Además, aprendimos sobre la Pascua, que marca la llegada de la primavera y la renovación. Las búsquedas de huevos son una tradición popular en muchos países, con huevos decorados que contienen golosinas o regalos.

5TH AND 6TH GRADES
CREATIVE MINDS: WHERE ART MEETS ENGLISH
During the second and third terms, and following the CLIL Program, in the third cycle and from the areas of English and Arts, the contents have been worked on in an integrated way.
In the second term, in fifth grade, a basic knowledge in the area of mathematics was integrated, specifically, symmetry within the area of Arts.
In sixth grade, one of the topics covered was “the city.” Thus, a scale model of our town was made and the directions to get from one place to another were also worked on orally.
We also celebrated different anniversaries such as Valentine’s Day, making a card; the carnivals (fifth year), making masks inspired by the Lanzarote artist Cesar Manrique; and Easter, through different activities provided by the “Full English Culture” project.
In the third term, in fifth grade, we worked on the simple past using irregular verbs of weekend activities from the English area and in Arts these actions were captured in 3-sided cubes (in isometric perspective). We were inspired by a street artist called ThankYouX to create a collaborative mural. On one of the sides a QR code appeared in which the children explained what they did and did not do in the past orally.
In sixth grade we worked under the inspiration of César Manrique and his wind sculptures. The students created these mobile sculptures using recycled material, a theme that corresponded to the English area. They also made their own graduation caps. For Canary Islands Day, both 5th and 6th created some traditional hats for the charity market.
In the English area we try to encourage the use of oral language and interactions in real situations, therefore, different activities were carried out using the Chroma classroom. In fifth grade we worked on petitions in a restaurant and in sixth grade we took advantage of the firefighters’ visit to the centre to work on a short film that the students created. They let us use their lorries and their clothing so it was a lot of fun! For other scenes we used the Chroma classroom and then the videos were edited.
Durante el segundo y tercer trimestre y, siguiendo el Programa AICLE, en el tercer ciclo y desde el área de inglés y de educación plástica se han trabajado los contenidos de forma integrada.
En el segundo trimestre, en quinto curso se integró un saber básico del área de matemáticas, en concreto, la simetría dentro del área de educación plástica.
En sexto curso una de las temáticas tratadas fue “la ciudad”. Así pues, se realizó una maqueta de nuestra localidad a escala y también se trabajaron las indicaciones para ir de un lugar a otro de forma oral.
También celebramos diferentes efemérides como el día de San Valentín, realizando una tarjeta; los Carnavales (quinto curso), realizando unes máscaras inspiradas en el artista lanzaroteño Cesar Manrique; y «Easter», a través de diferentes actividades proporcionadas desde el proyecto “Full English Culture”.
En el tercer trimestre, en quinto curso se trabajó el pasado simple utilizando los verbos irregulares de actividades lúdicas desde el área de inglés y en educación plástica se plasmaron estas acciones en unos cubos de 3 caras (en perspectiva isométrica). Nos inspiramos en un artista callejero llamado ThankYouX para crear un mural colaborativo. En una de las caras aparecía un código QR en los que los niños explicaban lo que hicieron y no hicieron en el pasado de forma oral.
En sexto de primaria se trabajó bajo la inspiración de César Manrique y sus esculturas de viento. El alumnado creó estas esculturas móviles utilizando material reciclado, temática que correspondía con el área de inglés. También realizaron sus propios birretes para su graduación. Para el día de Canarias tanto 5º como 6º crearon unas sombreras para el mercadillo benéfico.
En el área de inglés intentamos fomentar el uso de la lengua oral y las interacciones en situaciones reales, por ello, se realizaron diferentes actividades utilizando al aula Chroma. En quinto curso trabajamos las peticiones en un restaurante y en sexto curso aprovechamos la visita de los bomberos al centro para trabajar un corto que crearon los alumnos. ¡Nos dejaron utilizar sus camiones y su indumentaria por lo que fue muy divertido! Para otras escenas usamos el aula Chroma y luego se editaron los vídeos.
ART SHOW
What a joy it has been to set up the art exhibition in our school one more year! An exhibition where students from kindergarten to sixth grade have been able to present their work. For the realisation of these works that reflect various techniques, students have been inspired by artists from different eras. The work of an entire course has its fruits: to get both students and their families to enjoy art like never before.
This year has also come with a novelty. Each work exhibited has been accompanied by a Qr code with which an explanation has been accessed by the students in video and in English. With this activity we have intended for students to put everything they have learned into practice and use English as a means to get to learning.
¡Qué alegría ha sido montar un año más la exposición de arte en nuestro colegio! Una exposición donde el alumnado de Infantil hasta sexto de Primaria ha podido exponer sus trabajos. Para la realización de estos trabajos que reflejan diversas técnicas, el alumnado se ha inspirado en artistas de diferentes épocas. El trabajo de todo un curso tiene sus frutos: conseguir que tanto el alumnado como sus familias disfruten del arte como nunca antes.
Este año además ha venido con una novedad. Cada trabajo expuesto ha estado acompañado por un código Qr con el que se ha accedido a una explicación por parte del alumnado en vídeo y en inglés. Con esta actividad hemos pretendido que el alumnado ponga en práctica todo lo aprendido y utilice el inglés como medio para llegar al aprendizaje.
