The epic journey of the Rubber Ducks!
How 29.000 toys cruised the world in 15 years. A story about DUCKS … and OCEAN CURRENTS (and plastic waste and science and luck!)
Using the amazing story of the rubber ducks that traveled the oceans after a cargo ship carrying bath toys got caught in a storm, students get to understand the way oceanic currents work and it also allows us to dig a little deeper into other topics such as plastic waste in the oceans and the way science develops.
Students also work on their understanding of the Earth, of its oceans and continents as they follow the adventures of the rubber ducks through our waters.
Texts and videos with English audio are used to explain all of this to the class. They are then invited to draw the journey of the Rubber Ducks into a world map.
¡El viaje épico de unos patos de goma!
La historia de cómo 29.000 juguetes recorrieron el mundo en 15 años. Una historia sobre patos … y corrientes oceánicas (y también sobre desechos plásticos, ciencia y azar).
Recurrimos a la increíble historia de los patos de goma que viajaron por los océanos después de que un barco que transportaba juguetes de baño quedara atrapado en una tormenta. Gracias a esta historia real los estudiantes pueden comprender cómo funcionan las corrientes oceánicas y también nos permite profundizar un poco más en otros temas como el plástico que contamina los océanos.
Los estudiantes también trabajan su comprensión de la Tierra, de sus océanos y continentes mientras siguen las aventuras de los patos de goma a través de nuestras aguas.
Los textos y videos con audio en inglés se utilizan para explicar todo esto a la clase. Luego se les invita a dibujar el viaje de los patos de goma en un mapa del mundo.

The students read and commented this BBC article : “Is gender inequality man-made?”
The article connects perfectly to the contents seen in prehistory and Mesopotamia and serves to understand the historical origin of inequality between men and women. The students have written a subsequent text in which they summarize and comment on the text and what was spoken in class.
Also, some students investigated the first writer of humanity, Enheduanna and Hatshepsut, one of the most celebrated pharaohs of ancient Egypt.
Los estudiantes leyeron un artículo de la BBC titulado “Is gender inequality man-made?”(¿Es la desigualdad de género una creación humana?). El artículo enlaza con los contenidos vistos de prehistoria y Mesopotamia y sirve para entender el origen histórico de la desigualdad entre hombres y mujeres. Los alumnos han realizado una reflexión posterior en la que resumieron y comentaron el texto y lo hablado en clase.
Además, algunos estudiantes investigaron sobre la primera escritora de la humanidad, la mesopotámica Enheduanna, y sobre Hatshepsut, una de las faraonas más célebres del antiguo Egipto.

TIME TRAVEL MAGAZINE -PREHISTORY
After studying the basics of History, students are now ready to go on a fantastic adventure. They can now Time Travel to the different historical periods and tell the rest of the class what they have learned.
First of all, they created a fictional persona of a journalist that can time travel and then they created different media companies located in English speaking countries. They decided a name and logo for the company and a CV for themselves.
This project will last the whole year and take them to Prehistory, Ancient History, Greece, Rome and finally the Medieval period.
In this way, students mix historical knowledge and creativity as well as English and information and communication technologies.
The first part of this project has taken them to Prehistory. They worked in small groups and chose between Paleolithic, Neolithic and Metal Ages. Their work was delivered in text, video or audio format.
Después de estudiar los conceptos básicos de la historia, los estudiantes ahora están listos para emprender una aventura fantástica. Ahora pueden viajar en el tiempo a los diferentes períodos históricos y contar al resto de la clase lo que han aprendido.
En primer lugar, crearon un personaje, un periodista que puede viajar en el tiempo y luego crearon diferentes compañías de medios ubicadas en países de habla inglesa. Decidieron un nombre y un logotipo para la empresa y un CV para ellos.
Este proyecto durará todo el año y los llevará a la prehistoria, la historia antigua,Grecia y Roma y, finalmente, al período medieval.
De esta manera, los estudiantes mezclan conocimiento histórico y creatividad, así como inglés y herramientas TIC.
La primera parte de este proyecto los ha llevado a la prehistoria. Trabajaron en pequeños grupos y eligieron entre Paleolítico, Neolítico y edad de los metales para sus trabajos que entregaron en formato texto, vídeo y audio a su elección.

“ I’m feeling lucky & A country with my name letter”
Students used the app Google Earth to discover the world in a new and exciting way. They installed the app and used the new function “I ´m feeling Lucky”. This takes them into a random world place. It can be anywhere! They had to write down a few paragraphs about the place and also its geographical coordinates.
They also looked for information about a country beginning with their name letter.
Next step was to take that into a final piece that could be shown to other students. They created posters with those places, photos and information on them.
Los estudiantes usaron la aplicación Google Earth para descubrir el mundo de una manera nueva y emocionante. Instalaron la aplicación y utilizaron la nueva función “Voy a tener suerte”. Esto los lleva a un lugar aleatorio del mundo. ¡Puede ser cualquiera! Tuvieron que escribir algunos párrafos sobre el lugar y también sus coordenadas geográficas.
También eligieron un país cuyo nombre empezara por su propia inicial y buscaron información sobre este.
El siguiente paso fue llevar eso a una pieza final que podría mostrarse a otros estudiantes. Crearon carteles con esos lugares, fotos e información sobre ellos.

After getting to know Greta Thunberg and her movement “Fridays for Future” through vídeos shown in the class, including her famous TED talk (with subtitles), the students wrote in their notebooks what they thought about climate change and the need for urgent action. They also wrote about the things they wonder about and we discussed about this.
After all this we discussed how to create a poster about climate change and they created their own posters in small teams using recycled cardboards. Therefore, they used creative writing with a good purpose.
Después de conocer a Greta Thunberg y su movimiento Fridays for Future mediante vídeos, incluida su famosa charla TED (con subtítulos), el alumnado escribieron lo que opinaban sobre el cambio climático y la necesidad de acciones concretas y urgentes. También escribieron sobre las preguntas que se hacen y estas fueron discutidas.
Por último se crearon posters sobre el cambio climático en pequeños equipos y sobre cartones reciclados.
