New version of the Tableau web connector, only for Tableau Desktop version 2024 onwards. Tableau is a tool that allows you to create visualizations very quickly on any data set. With this tool you can create your own dashboards and thus take advantage of the power that Tableau gives you to perform data analysis. Tableau's Web Data Connectors allow you to connect the tool with external data to obtain it automatically and very easily. An own set of web connectors for Tableau has been developed with the aim of simplifying the reuse of published information.
To install this version of the connector in Tableau you’ll need to follow two steps:
To install the certificate, first locate the path to the JRE that comes with the Tableau Desktop installation. Below are the most common paths for Windows and Mac:
C:\\Program Files\\Tableau\\Tableau <version>\\bin\\jre\\
/Applications/Tableau Desktop <version>/Contents/Plugins/jre/
Next, download the certificate at the following link and, depending on your operating system and Tableau version, run the following command in a terminal with elevated administrator permissions to add the certificate to the Tableau certificate store. Keep in mind that you must replace <version> with the version of your Tableau installation. If an error occurs, make sure that the cacerts file does not have the "Read-only" attribute set by right-clicking on the file > Properties.
& "C:\\Program Files\\Tableau\\Tableau <version>\\bin\\jre\\bin\\keytool.exe" -import -alias tableau-wdc3 -file tableau-wdc3.cer -keystore "C:\\Program Files\\Tableau\\Tableau <version>\\bin\\jre\\lib\\security\\cacerts" -storepass changeit
"C:\\Program Files\\Tableau\\Tableau <version>\\bin\\jre\\bin\\keytool.exe" -import -alias tableau-wdc3 -file tableau-wdc3.cer -keystore "C:\\Program Files\\Tableau\\Tableau <version>\\bin\\jre\\lib\\security\\cacerts" -storepass changeit
"/Applications/Tableau Desktop <version>/Contents/Plugins/jre/bin/keytool.exe" -import -alias tableau-wdc3 -file tableau-wdc3.cer -keystore "/Applications/Tableau Desktop <version>/Contents/Plugins/jre/lib/security/cacerts" -storepass changeit
If during the process it asks you if you want to trust the certificate, type yes. At the end of the execution, the message "Certificate was added to keystore" should appear if everything went correctly. After this, you should be able to run the connector directly from Tableau, which will appear with the name "Conector web de eDatos".
We also have a script to execute the installation of the connector and the certificate automatically. It is only available for Windows, and must be executed at a Powershell terminal. Important: We do not offer support for the execution of this script, so it is recommended to follow the manual installation instructions if there is no experience with the Windows terminal. You can download the script from this link.
