The current regulatory framework, within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), establishes that universities must have public policies and Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS), in accordance with standard 1.1 of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).

The IQAS must be oriented towards continuous improvement and aligned with the ESG in Part 1, and must ensure the quality of the training programmes, the student orientation of teaching, the quality of academic staff, the management of resources, the management and publication of information.

BACKGROUND: 

The National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), as described on its website, developed the AUDIT Programme in 2007 to encourage and promote the development and implementation of internal quality assurance systems within Spanish universities, and to implement a procedure leading to the recognition and certification of these systems. Subsequently, it was extended through AUDIT International, in response to the demand from various international organisations to certify the quality assurance systems of Higher Education Institutions (HEI).

The ACCUEE, after external validation by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and its registration in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), assumes as an evaluation activity, within its competences, the process of evaluation and certification of the Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS) of the centres of the universities of the Canary Islands, both public and private.

To this end, and taking into account the work carried out during these years by the universities of the Canary Islands, the ACCUEE will apply the AUDIT Programme of ANECA:
