INTRODUCTION
Royal Decree 822/2021, of 28 September, which establishes the organisation of university education and the procedure for assuring its quality, establishes that study plans leading to the award of official degrees (Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Programmes) will be verified by the Council of Universities, with the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) or, where appropriate, the assessment bodies determined by the Law of the Autonomous Communities, and which comply with the quality criteria and standards established by the European Commission, shall be responsible for assessing the syllabuses, in accordance with the verification protocols established jointly by the Agencies that meet the aforementioned requirement.
Similarly, the Royal Decree establishes that the Assessment Agencies must carry out the corresponding assessment of those official degrees already in place for which the universities wish to make modifications, distinguishing between substantial and non-substantial modifications, and between degrees that are attached to accredited and non-institutionally accredited centres.
Taking into account that the Canarian Agency for University Quality Assurance and Educational Evaluation (ACCUEE) is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is in turn registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), it is responsible for evaluating the curricula of public and private universities in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
For this purpose, and in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned Royal Decree, the Spanish Network of University Quality Assurance Agencies (REACU), formed by ANECA and the University Quality Assurance Agencies, has drawn up the Assessment Protocols for the verification and modification of University Degrees and Master's and Doctoral Degrees.
