Erasmus Policy Statement

The Escuela de Arte de Fuerteventura has been recently awarded by the European Commission with the quality certificate for the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) 2021-2027.

The entire board and a large part of the educational team firmly believe that participation in Erasmus + mobilities represents a huge leap in the quality of our educational offer. Our educational centre has several features that make the Erasmus + mobility project a very valuable tool and these features are as follows:

Condition of an ultra-peripheral island: Our centre is located on the island of Fuerteventura, it is a non-capital island of the Canary archipelago which implies a double insularity, a double condition of isolation and remoteness from the large cultural monopolies. That is why it seems paramount to us to give our students and teaching staff the possibility of going out, knowing and expanding cultural horizons.

Art School: Our condition as an art school turns mobility into a tool of great added value within artistic training, given that the arts and creation are increasingly a global and intercultural constructions and are part of the identity collective, that is why we consider that the mobilities will allow our students and teachers to grow in this idea of a global European society.

Tourist island: The relationship of the locals of island with the rest of the member countries of the European Union is always through tourism (main source of income) and the service sector. It seems to us fundamental to be able to change the biased and reified vision that one has of the tourist by means of relations of equality, fraternity and in educational spaces of collective creation that help the unification and cohesion of the European space.

We believe from the Fuerteventura School of Art that education in general and art in particular are two powerful tools for identity construction. The arts are nothing more than communication, intercultural and transnational statutes through which to generate a collective identity. Therefore, the interaction between the different cultures of the member countries are the bases for the creation of a common culture, based on the arts and their unifying cultural norms. Every culture has its code and its art forms and we can identify a common idea of European art, a concept of unity around symbols that allow us to understand each other beyond the different languages.

Without a doubt, the possibility of sharing knowledge with other European schools and doing internships for our students abroad will provide a much more global vision of the arts and education and help us modernize the school with new techniques and pedagogical forms and It will directly revert to the betterment of society. It will be an important modernizing drive for our school and our territory.

Since we do not have university studies and only higher cycles, the main and most important action for us is the exchange of practices with companies and collaborating entities for students. Our intention is to create collaboration agreements with European companies in the arts sector where our students can carry out their internship period. We believe that the first contact with the world of work is very important for all young people who access it for the first time, it must be exciting and motivating and help the individual to visualize a future, give them self-confidence and business ideas that they can develop.

In our territory it is difficult to find companies in the artistic sector to send our internship students, this gives a double value to the idea of generating internships abroad, on the one hand we can access countless companies from all disciplines and on the other our students.

Undoubtedly, our main objective as an educational centre is the incorporation of our students into the world of work, modernizing the economic fabric and generating real job opportunities.

The educational offer of our center contains four higher degree studies among which are:

  • 2D & 3D Animation (creating stories using animated characters).
  • Photography
  • Graphic design and advertising
  • Interior Design Project Management and Design of Decoration Works:

They are studies that require influences, the possibility of seeing new things that serve as inspiration is why being in contact with the great European design centers is essential.

The headmaster of our centre, Mr. Domingo Guanarteme Cruz, was the person who started and coordinated the Erasmus programme for many years at the School of Arts in Gran Canary and we count on his experience to coordinate this new project, in addition to the contacts and the collaboration of the Gran Canary school.

The aim of the centre is to implement our studies, as a supplement to the degree, in the 24-month modality, we really have a lot of interest in receiving exchange students and sending our students to schools participating in the programme to enrich our academic provision. In addition, we firmly believe that the reception of students will generate very positive synergies for our school and on the educational and real internalization educational project.

On the other hand, the mobility of teachers is also an important point for the modernization of our school, we believe that contact with diverse educational systems, the transfer of educational experiences and knowledge generates a great qualitative leap in the education of the parties. The commitment to trained teachers is the commitment to the future of the European Union, the quality of education and of educators will greatly depend on its modernization and growth.

Educating in diversity implies living and accepting that the people in charge of education believe in those values.

We hope that the internationalization of the school will turn us into an open and exchange space, which will allow us to modernize ourselves and become a cultural meeting and reference point on the island.

We are also aware that participation in international Erasmus exchanges will give prestige to the entity, reflecting a desire for improvement, searching for new avenues of growth and openness.

Institutions such as the Cabildo (an organization with competences in education at the island level) promote and encourage with their help the internationalization exchanges of educational centres and we will take advantage of that will to carry out this internationalization plan.

To support participation in mobility, we will seek support from institutions that help people with fewer economic possibilities or other special needs to mobility in search of equal opportunities.

Collaborations and meetings with other entities that work in Erasmus mobility will be proposed, as we have been doing with the Astronomical Association of Fuerteventura C.I.F.:G35413830, PIC: 924670640 and with other art schools in the archipelago, sharing documentation and previous experiences in the mobilities to ensure the quality of the service.
