OCTORIAL COURSE

In studying on an Octorial course, a variety of learning activities are used including surveys, questionnaires and research projects, role play and communication games. Authentic materials such as newspaper articles, literary texts, real world audio and video provide the resources for talks, debates, information exchanges and presentations.

Octorial Programme (27.5 hours per week) 55 hours total for two weeks

15 hours of language skills lessons (maximum group size 8)
12.5 hours of communication skills lessons: Team Project, Workshops and Mentored Dissertation (maximum group size 12)
Beginner to Advanced
Minimum age: 17 years

Week 1 and week 2

08.45 – 09.00 Plenary session: news review:
Builds confidence, sesiliense and removes the fear of public speaking
Familiarisation with public speaking- useful practice for all situations involving speaking to an assembled group audience

09.00 – 10.00 Spoken Performance Workshop
Develops the ability to adjust the style and register of your language to the situation. Communicate your massege effectively and connect with your audience.
Techniques to help your fluency and performance. -useful when addressing an audience, giving verbal instrucction or expressing opininion.

10.00 – 10.15 Break

10.15 – 11.15 Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric
A rich vocavulary abd accurate grammar give you the conficence to be bold with your use of the language.
A strong fundation which gives you increased scope in your spoken and writen use of the language

11.15 – 11.30 Break

11.30 – 12.30 Comprehension, Vocabulary and Precis
Develop your fluency and includes real-life communication tasks, such as use of Skype and digital link-ups.
Develops your speed of listening, absorbing, assimilating, processing and reacting. Use of phone and skype. Practice in adapting to differents styles and registers.

12.30 – 13.00 Team Project
Team building and collaboration skilss. you gain experience of working in English in cross-cultural situations.
Problen solving in international groups develops leadership, project management skils, team work, collaboration, creative thinking.

13.00 – 14.00 LUNCH – End of tuition for Essential Programme

14.00 – 15.00 Composition and Text Analysis
Creative writing, essay writing, reading of authentic texts. Develops imaginative use of vocavulary and style in your writing.
Matery if writing documents (letters, emails, reports) which are clear and professional. Achieve a personal writing style.

15.00 – 15.15 Break

15.15 – 16.15 Mentored Dissertation
Research projects for your personal portfolio.
Refined critical thinking skills in research projects or areas of specialisation.

16.15 – 16.30 Plenary session: consolidation
A review of the day¿s achievement hepls you to plan your learning strategy for the next day
Consolidate, review and identify areas for revision. Convert your stratey into results.
